Student Success and Multicultural Initiatives will host a diversity day with free giveaways and prep students for finals.
SSMI preps for the start of “I Love SSMI Day,” which will be held on Tarleton State University’s campus April 24.
Some activities include different round table sessions specifically for students, faculty and staff. These sessions include disability services, academic support programs, diversity and inclusion and international programs. These tables give students the opportunity to go over and come up with ideas they think are necessities for their ultimate academic success and achievement. Another table is specified for faculty and staff to help brainstorm ideas to make their students more academically enhanced for success.
A “Speed Dating Info Fair and Job Fair” will be held as a portion of the day. It was created to help attendees learn about all the different aspects of SSMI and how to get involved.
The only conflict to having SSMI Day during the last full week of April is the annually popular Larry Joe Taylor Music Festival. Dr. Jennifer Edwards, assistant vice president for SSMI, said, “LJT is an amazing event, but it’s also the week before finals.”
“The ultimate goal for that particular day is to increase knowledge of the services SSMI has for its faculty and staff and also to prepare them for the next week, which is finals.” Edwards said.
Free T-shirts, Scantrons, blue books, prizes and giveaways will be available to students for their most “important week of the year!” Edwards said.
All students, faculty and staff are welcome to attend the SSMI Day. Early registration for events is not required but encouraged to be entered for an iTunes gift card. SSMI has more information on its website: www.tarleton.edu/ssmi
